Mbathio Beye the first “Miss Black France” a marketing student who hails from Senegal.

“The goal of Ms. Black France according to the pageant’s organizer Frédéric Royer, the was to “celebrate black beauty,” and “to shine a light on the many Black women in this country who are rarely given any media attention.”

The last woman of color to win the title of “Miss France” was Chloé Mortaud—a biracial woman of African American and French descent in 2009.

Protesters have called the “Miss Black France” pageant “stupid,” “dangerous” and “hostile.”

*One of the conditions of the pagent was Natural Hair.

Do you agree with the protesters is the pagent unprogressive or is it needed?

Frederic Royer,  also stated that if black women could get a job in the fashion mecca, maybe this event would not have been necessary:

“All the black models tell me they can’t find work in France, so they are going to London and New York,” said Frederic Royer. “French magazines also never feature black women on their covers.”

Right wing activists called for a “Miss White France” competition.  According to UPI, one picketer that wanted to remain anonymous said:

“Why should Asians and Africans come here and have more rights than us?” one demonstrator who declined to be identified told Radio France Internationale. “This is why we are demanding a Miss White France.”
